French Beef Stew Recipe

One stormy lazy afternoon, a friend blogger Aileen Apolo de Jesus of  Mabuhay ang Bagong Kasal Blog was experimenting on a new recipe called The French Beef Stew.I was really excited to read the outcome of the recipe she’s making. Her blog about the French Beef Stew came up and I excitedly listed the ingredients and headed that evening to a nearby grocery and bought the missing ingredients that I need.

The following day, I was chatting with her for the last minute preparation just in case I missed or misinterpreted some of the recipe’s details. Then, another friend, Ria Jose of Kusina ni Maria Blog, suggested some more ingredients to make it more french style. Good thing I have all the ingredients she mentioned, except for the celery – but it can run with out it and it will work just fine.

Here below is the French Beef Stew recipe which I cooked today.

French Beef Stew Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kilogram beef cubes
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • olive oil
  • 2 potatoes, cubed
  • 1 carrot, cubed
  • small white onion minced
  • 1 cup beef broth or beef broth cube to be diluted to a cup of hot water
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp. rosemary

Procedure in Cooking:

  1. Thaw the beef, if still frozen.
  2. Season the beef with salt and pepper.
  3. After 30 minutes, coat the beef with flour and fry in olive oil on a pan with low fire until golden brown.
  4. Add the onions, carrots and potatoes, then put in the thyme and the rosemary as well.
  5. Simmer for 10 minutes in low fire.
  6. Add a cup of beef broth, mix and simmer again for 5 minutes.
  7. Add the can of crushed tomato and let simmer for 30 mins or until the meat becomes tender.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve
